Twitter has taken over from my blogging – why write a long blog post when you have already summarised what you want to say in 140 characters? In the effort to blog more, I’m still going to write this, because I can say more than that about it for sure.
Men.
Yep. I can sure write more thean 140 characters about men. Specifically though, men and grooming…or men and their understanding of women’s grooming. You thought this was going to be one of my bitter rants, didn’t you? But no, merely and observation and perhaps a little bit of education for the men amongst you.
Now this is just me…. please bear in mind that this does not apply to all women…
The crux of my problem is my hair. I have a lot of it. It likes to be washed prefereably every day but this just isn’t happening, so with the help of dry shampoo (actually Batiste and is the best) and clever up-dos, I can do three…well two and wash on the third. It takes a long time to wash, brush, dry, style etc.
Here is where the planning comes in.
I also like to go to the gym. I, unlike a lot of the girls I see there, sweat when I work out…therefore, there is absolutely no point washing my hair on the morning of a day when I am going to go to the gym and run up a sweat storm, that would just be wasting my time.
I like to have my hair freshly washed on a day that I am seeing the man shape or have evening plans… to look nice and pretty.
So, this week was going something like:
Monday – wash hair in the morning (seeing boy)
Tuesday – gym tonight, let’s use some dry shampoo and clips
Wednesday – gym again, let’s use some dry shampoo and tie it up in a top knot
Then I probably wash it that night because a relaxing bath would be nice.
Thursday – washed hair last night, should be grand (seeing boy)
Friday – wash hair in the morning (out tonight) or if not a major night out, dry shampoo and clip.
BUT. Then the boy can’t make Thursday and wants to switch to Wednesday instead. It’s Wednesday today. Shit, my hair is three days dirty and there’s no way I can leave it. I really have to wash it before I see him. Cue mad dash home to jump in the shower and wash my hair and act like nothing has really happened at all before he comes round.
You see, as much as I would like to wake up in the morning looking freshly washed and spritzed and made up…I don’t. It takes about 45 mintues to make this presentable. One little thing can send my carefully thought out plan all tits up.
But then I do like to plan things in detail.
Like this:

45 minutes? God I take that long to get ready in the morning and have a coffee before I leave. I admire your dedication to your hair. Maybe that is where I am going wrong with mine.
Plus I love this early stage of a relationship where you have to look ‘right’ for the boy all the time. After nearly 4 years it is just special occasions!
My hair is really short again now after growing it for ages then realising it made my face look long and ugly so it takes me about 20-25 minutes to do if i wash it and style it properly (plus another 10 for the face). I have to do it every other day though, dry shampoo doesn’t work on my hair (hairspray actually looks better) and it’s not long enough to do anything other than throw in the worlds shortest ponytail.
The right boys are worth it though
I hear ya. I now have a can of dry shampoo (not heard of Bastie – where can I get it?) in the bottom of my bag in case plans change with the boy and I’m caught out entirely.
Smidge That’s hair and make-up….although if I wanted to do more than just rough dry my hair, it would be 45 mins just for that! Don’t get me wrong, he’s seen me in my joggers and with no make-up on but never with dirty hair!!
Red I think I had to do more to mine when it was short…the shorter I have it, the more of it there seems to be!!! Different hair types I suppose… if it wasn’t for dry shampoo, I would have to wash mine every day!
Blonde It’s actually Batiste and you can get it from Boots…they do a brown one that doesn’t make me look like I’m going grey! I also have some in my work desk, just in case but some days there’s nothing for it but to wash it!
It takes me 45 mins to get ready in the morning WITHOUT washing and drying my hair – I would have to add ANOTHER 45 mins on for that, which is why I tend to do it at night. I should write a post about hair-washing because I have a theory on it (as opposed to your very impressively detailed plan!) – I also have to admit that I last washed my hair on Monday and am planning to not wash it again until tomorrow night. It seems to be okay so if it isn’t still like that in the morning, I’ll curl it and I can get away with it. I still haven’t really worked out how to use dry shampoo – I will eventually, cos everyone does rave about it.
Ha! I love this post because I’m the same way. I usually go two and a half days between washes. (Although working from home I’ve been known to stretch this to three and a half days. Cue ewwww.) When I was dating the last guy it was summer, so add in beach every afternoon and I was washing my hair every single day. It was exhausting!
I spend A LOT of time figuring out when I need to wash my hair too. I have never washed every day (because who really has the time) but lately I’ve been getting away with every third day, which is ace. That stopped working at the end of last week, though, which was hassle. Anyway, yes, me too!
Oooo! I’ve never heard of that, but I need SOMETHING. I shower when I get home from the gym, let my hair air dry, but come the next morning it’s oily again! Not good – I’m going to order this and have a go. Maybe i’ll help so I don’t have to shower in the morning too!
Paula I’m better than I was…I used to have to wash it every day. I can’t stand it feeling dirty. Thank God for dry shampoo really! Saves me a lot of time!
Eleni Oh the beach is horrible on hair… so it gets dirty and greasy and so dry as well! Nightmare!
Hooli It takes up a lot of brain power working out when! Now I’m trying to go to the gym more as well it’s even more difficult!
Lpeg It’s really good and they do one for brown hair as well (It’s essentially like talc so it’s white)
